Robinson Eikenberry

The Santa Barbara music community sustained an incalculable loss with the recent passing of Robinson Eikenberry. Robinson was not only one of the most gifted studio engineers I've ever met, but he was also in many ways just as much a guru, therapist, and healer. Robinson was an integral part of so many seminal recordings and a central figure in our music scene.

On a personal note, he engineered, mixed, and co-produced my very first solo CD, A Little Wiser, as well as serving those same rolls and a variety of others on subsequent records. He was very behind the scenes and opted for a life in the studio with those that truly needed the safe space he provided for a deeper, cathartic recording experience, as opposed to pursuing more commercial ventures, which he undoubtedly would have been just as successful at.

One of the songs Robinson and I recorded for my ‘Through The Rain’ record is an instrumental song of mine called ‘Dearly Departed’. I wrote it as a tribute to our loved ones that have passed on. I would never have thought that one day it would take on a whole new meaning now that he is gone.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I bid farewell to Robinson, whom I owe an enormous debt of gratitude for putting my life on the right track musically and spiritually. Thank you Rob Rob, much love, and I'll see you on the other side. -Alastair
