Alastair will be releasing a new record on Tab Benoit’s Whiskey Bayou Records

Alastair and Tab got to know each other on a couple annual gigs at the Big Blues Bender, and soon become friends as well as musical compadres, so when Tab asked Alastair to join his Whiskey Bayou Records label, it was a natural fit. Greene traveled to Whiskey Bayou Studios in Houma Louisiana with a handful of songs. Tab helped arrange and produce, they did some co-writing, and wound up with 11 original songs. With Greene on guitar and vocals, Tab on drums and harmony vocals, and Corey Duplechin on bass and harmony vocals they recorded most tracks live in the studio. Greene notes that these songs reflect more straight-up blues than his last couple of records, while the songwriting does stretch in to some different territories — Blues Rock filtered through a funky Louisiana Rhythm section.

The new record will be coming in 2020. Stay tuned…

Jack Kennedy - Celebration Of Life

A celebration of life was held for Jack Kennedy on
Sunday, September 15th. Alastair wrote and posted to social media later that day:
"For those of you that couldn’t make it,....
We celebrated the life of Jack Kennedy today. It was incredibly moving. Lots of crying and lots of laughter. One of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was get up and speak about my mentor and friend, Jack. I know he’d be getting a kick out of the proceedings. It was so good seeing old friends and telling stories. Jack was one of a kind and those of us who knew him will carry a part of him with us forever. Much love to his wife Eden and son Jackson. He was the first true stone cold bada$$ mofo I ever met. He lived a lot of life in 60 years. More than most people could live in 600 years! Love you and miss, bro."
We invite you to take a moment and celebrate Jack's life by watching and listening to this bass solo from the Alastair Greene show in Boynton Beach, FL. Alastair writes:
"This is what I consider to be a classic Jack Kennedy bass solo. It's all here. Jack's groove, flurries of notes, string bending, octave chromaticism, melodic sensibilities....pure bada$$ery.
Rest in peace, brother Jack."
(Listen with headphones or on a stereo so you can hear the bass. Smart phone speakers aren’t very good for bass response)

Blues Blast Awards ReCap

We're so grateful that LIVE FROM THE 805 was nominated for Rock Blues Album of The Year by Blues Blast Magazine. The attention and accolades that LIVE FROM THE 805 received exceeded everyone’s expectations involved in the project. Considering that Alastair joined and hit the road with the Sugaray Rayford Band shortly after it’s release and didn’t tour much to support it which makes every review, sale, and kind word mean all that much more.
Our friend Jp Soars out of Florida took home the award for Rock Blues Album of the Year for his release Southbound I-95. Congrats, Jp!!!
In other news the Sugaray Rayford Band took home the award for Blues Band of the Year!
Congratulations to Sugaray, Alastair, and the rest of the band! Alastair performed 2 songs off of LIVE FROM THE 805 with Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones at the award show and was asked to accept the Best Blues Band award on behalf of Sugaray.

Alastair to perform at the Blues Blast Awards

Alastair's most recent record, LIVE FROM THE 805 was nominated by Blues Blast Magazine for Rock Blues Album of the Year. Alastair is scheduled to perform at the Blues Blast Awards in Rockford, IL on Friday, September 13th

Onstage with Buddy Guy

The Sugaray Rayford Band was joined onstage in Chicago August, 16th by living legend,
Buddy Guy. Buddy got up and sang a song with the band at his world famous blues club, Buddy Guy's Legends.
This was Alastair's third time playing Legends in less than one year. (Once with his band and twice with Sugaray). Buddy is one of Alastair's earliest blues guitar influences, so needless to say, he was thrilled!

Jack Kennedy - Rest In Peace

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that original Alastair Greene Band bass player Jack Kennedy passed away the morning of Tuesday, August 6th from a heart attack at the age of 60.

Jack was not only the original bass player for the Alastair Greene Band (1997-2007) but was the original bass player for the legendary Santa Barbara based blues bandThe Pontiax from the early 80s through the mid 90s. The Pontiax did multiple tours of the United States and Europe and released the classic blues record '100 Miles To Go' in 1989. That album was re-released on CD by Delta Groove Records in 2004 as 'Mitch Kashmar & The Pontiax'. During the 80s and 90s The Ponitax backed up a who's who of blues legends passing through Southern California including Lowell Fulson, Pee Wee Crayton, Jimmy Witherspoon, Big Joe Turner and many more.

You can hear Jack on Alastair's first 2 CDs 'A Little Wiser' and 'Live In L.A.' (2001 & 2002) as well as the CD 'Frank Goldwasser w The Alastair Greene Band' (2006). Jack and Alastair were members of Aynsley Dunbar's band in 2002 and can be heard on the album 'Mutiny' released in 2007. Jack toured with the Sugaray Rayford Band in 2015 and continued to back up world class touring blues musicians over the last several years.

In the mid-2000s Jack reunited with his old friend and former band mate Mitch Kashmar as well as Alastair, and former Pontiax / then current AGB drummer Tom Lackner, to play local Santa Barbara, CA shows as the "KGB" (Kashmar Greene Band). Jack joined the Alastair Greene Band for shows during the last decade to fill in for current AGB bassist Jim Rankin. Jack was known far and wide as a great bass player, pool player, painter, general contractor, and friend.

Jack played what we believe to be one of, if not his last public performance on Sunday May, 26th in Boynton Beach, Florida with the Alastair Greene Band. The entire show was captured on video and can be seen HERE on YouTube.

Our hearts go out to Jack's wife and son as well as his siblings, friends, and fans.

- Team Greene

Singer and guitarist Mike Ledbetter passed away January 21st at the age of 33. Read Alastair's tribute to Mike below.
"I’m going to miss my friend, Mike Ledbetter. I didn’t know him as well as some, but I knew him well enough. The Blues world just lost one of its brightest rising stars. Mike was going to be a legend, I suppose now he is. His voice was a blessing and a gift that he shared the world over. I am grateful to have hung with him, laughed with him, had some deep talks with him, and of course, make some music with him. Even though I am nearly a decade and a half older than him, I jumped for joy when I got his approval either onstage, offstage, or via a text message. It was amazing to watch his rapid growth from the new kid in the Nick Moss Band nearly a decade ago, to forming the Welch Ledbetter Connection and doing his solo thing. I love you, Mike. I’ve been crying off and on since last night. I weep for the loss the blues world has sustained, your friends, your family, your children, your band mates,....I weep for us all. Safe travels my friend. You will not be forgotten. - AG"
We encourage you to listen to the blessing that is the voice of Mike Ledbetter.

Roots Music Report Top Blues Rock Records of 2018

We would like to send a big shout out and THANK YOU to all of the radio DJs who have been spinning AG's tracks. Having 2 albums show up in the 2018 end of year Roots Music Report blues rock album chart (#50 and #51 out of 200) is spectacular. Seeing as how Dream Train came out in 2017 and that traditionally, live albums don’t receive as much airplay as studio albums, we are beyond thrilled at the response we've been getting from radio and listeners alike.

LIVE FROM THE 805 makes Rock & Blues Muse Top 20 of 2018

We are incredibly proud that LIVE FROM THE 805 was included in the Rock and Blues Muse Top 20 albums of 2018. We are in such great company here and realize how rare it is for a live record to make an end of year list like this. Before the list on their website, Rock and Blues Mused prefaced their picks for Albums of the year with:
"We polled our staff and our readers for our Top 20 Blues, Rock, Roots Albums of 2018. We chose one live record, even given the obvious challenges of including a live album in a list like this. We included it because we think it is too good to leave out."
“Blues-rock guitarist, singer-songwriter Alastair Greene recorded a live performance in his native Southern California and released the two-disc set in August via Rip Cat Records and recorded by Sean McCue. Hot on the heels of his 2017 release, Dream Train, this album is so strong and the recording produced so seamlessly, we had to include it in our list. Guitar master Alastair Greene showcases his love of the blues and blues-rock on this stellar live album of 20 songs. This release showcases Greene’s commitment to rocking blues after spending seven years as lead guitarist for The Alan Parson Project. Greene showcases soulful vocals and outstanding guitar work (including slide.) It is a collection of powerful, stripped down music of mostly originals.”

-->Event Information

Robinson Eikenberry

The Santa Barbara music community sustained an incalculable loss with the recent passing of Robinson Eikenberry. Robinson was not only one of the most gifted studio engineers I've ever met, but he was also in many ways just as much a guru, therapist, and healer. Robinson was an integral part of so many seminal recordings and a central figure in our music scene.

On a personal note, he engineered, mixed, and co-produced my very first solo CD, A Little Wiser, as well as serving those same rolls and a variety of others on subsequent records. He was very behind the scenes and opted for a life in the studio with those that truly needed the safe space he provided for a deeper, cathartic recording experience, as opposed to pursuing more commercial ventures, which he undoubtedly would have been just as successful at.

One of the songs Robinson and I recorded for my ‘Through The Rain’ record is an instrumental song of mine called ‘Dearly Departed’. I wrote it as a tribute to our loved ones that have passed on. I would never have thought that one day it would take on a whole new meaning now that he is gone.

Listen Here-> Dearly Departed

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I bid farewell to Robinson, whom I owe an enormous debt of gratitude for putting my life on the right track musically and spiritually. Thank you Rob Rob, much love, and I'll see you on the other side. -Alastair

Music News From Alastair

"It’s been an amazing 7 year journey touring with the Alan Parsons Live Project. I’ve gotten to see much of the world because of this thing called a guitar and a generous man named Alan Parsons. I’d like to thank Alan for taking a chance on a local, freewheeling Blues Rock kid and giving him the opportunity to hold down the guitar chair in his band for so many years.

Much thought and consideration has gone into my decision to leave the band and focus now on my solo career and other musical adventures. My love and appreciation goes out to Alan and his organization for so many great memories. To the fans of the Alan Parsons Project and Alan Parsons’ solo work who packed theaters, arenas, and festivals around the world,...THANK YOU for your love and support!"

It seems all too often I have to report of the loss of a great musician and/or friend these days. I'd like to send the family, fans, and friends of Alan Mirikitani (aka BB "Chung" King) my sincerest condolences for their loss. A Life Well Lived - Thank You Mr. King

I am sure news of BB King’s passing has reached just about every corner of the earth by now. Everything that needs to be said has been said, I am sure. As a long time fan of his work, I feel compelled to share some brief thoughts with you in honor of his memory.

BB Live

BB King was one of the first Blues artists I was made aware of. In 1987 or 1988, a friend of my father’s loaned me some Blues records. This stack of vinyl was my introduction to Electric Blues and kicked off what would end up becoming a life long musical obsession. Among the records I was loaned was BB King’s seminal recording ‘Live At The Regal’. This record is universally regarded as not only one of BB’s best, but one of the best live Electric Blues albums of all time. Through these recordings I was exposed to a genre and style of playing that I dearly love and do my best to pay homage to every time I take the bandstand.
BB King was not only the single most important and influential Electric Guitarist of all time, but also he was the “Ambassador of the Blues” to the world. His touring schedule is the stuff of legend. At the height of his career he played over 300 nights a year. Last year, before he retired from playing, I just read he played 150 shows at the age of 88. Unbelievable!

I was fortunate to see him play a handful of times over the years. I was even more fortunate to get to meet him twice. He was known for going out of his way for his fans and meeting people and signing autographs for hours after performances. For those of you who are not familiar with his work, I would encourage you to seek out his music. Many people think of the Blues as sad or depressing music. Nothing could be further from the case with BB King and The Blues. The music of the Blues is about all feelings, all emotions, all circumstances.

It is sad to lose The King; however, he will always be with us through his music and influence. He showed many of us how it is done and what it means to be a professional musician. He made millions of people happy over his 6 decade-long career. I would call that a life well lived. The thrill is not gone, it is here to stay. Thank you Mr. King for everything you gave us.

Blues Music Awards Week

After attending the 26th Blues Music Awards in Memphis on May 7th, Alastair kicked off the Play It Forward Benefit for Generation Blues at The Hard Rock Cafe on Beale Street. Supported by the Andy T Band, Alastair played a short and spirited set. Later that night he joined Bob Margolin onstage at the Rum Boogie Cafe for the VizzTone Label Group showcase. Also onstage for the jams at the Rum Boogie with Alastair were vocalist Long Tall Deb and harmonica player Richard 'Rosy' Rosenblatt

BMA week

Thank you Randy

It is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the passing of Randy Chortkoff. Randy passed early in the morning on May 5th, 2015. Randy was the president of Delta Groove Productions and Eclecto Groove Records who put out my latest CD 'Trouble At Your Door' in July of 2014. You can read a sweet tribute to Randy on the Delta Groove website HERE. I would like to publicly thank Randy for believing in me and taking a chance on putting out a Blues Rock record on his primarily Traditional Blues label. His belief in my music continues to be a wonderful feeling for me, and I will keep him in my heart moving forward. Thank you Randy, and rest in peace brother. -Alastair

Gary Moore 1952 - 2011

One of my heroes, Irish Blues Rock guitarist and vocalist Gary Moore passed away Sunday February 6th at the age of 58 while on vacation in Spain.

I loved his music. He had the quintessential Gibson Les Paul plugged into a cranked up Marshall amp tone that many seek and few attain. As a guitar player he had an amazing feel, vibrato, and his phrasing was impeccable. He was also capable of incredible speed and precision which when mixed with his sense of melody was breathtaking. Gary was also known for his ballads in which he would simply make the guitar weep beautifully.

Thank you for sharing your gifts with us Gary. You will be greatly missed.

Ronnie James Dio

I would like to acknowledge the passing of a huge childhood musical inspiration and influence. Ronnie James Dio passed away the morning of Sunday May 16th after battling cancer since last fall. He was 67 years old. RJD was the genre defining vocalist for such Hard Rock and Heavy Metal bands as Rainbow, Black Sabbath (he replaced Ozzy for a few years in 1979), and of course his own band Dio. Ronnie worked with some of the best guitarists in the business. The guitarist on Dio’s first solo record ‘Holy Diver’, Vivian Campbell, was an integral part of my early development on guitar, not to mention Ritchie Blackmore from Rainbow and Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath being huge influences as well. I was lucky to see RJD perform with Heaven & Hell (a re-vamped and re-named Black Sabbath) twice in the last three years. Thanks Ronnie for all the great music! - Alastair

AG recieved a review for his most recent CD 'WALKING IN CIRCLES' in the April 2010 edition of Music Connection Magazine with none other than guitar legend Jeff Beck on the cover.

"Greene certainly isn’t reinventing the blues-rock wheel with these recordings, but he sure burns rubber whenever it’s his cue to rip a solo. Whether it’s the Elmore James type stomper, “Walking In Circles”, or the ZZ Top-ish boogie, “Cut You Loose”, Greene’s leads are either impeccably clean or eminently dirty, whatever is called for. There’s great band energy here too, captured with a live club feel. Greene, who also works with the likes of Alan Parsons, is a fiery performer who’s perfect meat for a label such as Blind Pig Records."

Hello friends,

I just wanted to post a Holiday message to all of you who have encouraged and supported my musical endeavors over the past year. So many wonderful things happened in 2009 and I am truly grateful.

None of the great musical related things in my life would be possible without all of you who come to the shows, buy the CDs, and pass on your kind words and emails. It is a blessing to be able to share this musical journey with you. Thank you so much. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday season and let's all have an amazing 2010! See you out there in musicland. Cheers, AG

WALKING IN CIRCLES has been reviewed in the latest issue of BLUES REVUE MAGAZINE. Check it out!

blues revue

"The ALASTAIR GREENE BAND has achieved an elusive result with WALKING IN CIRCLES (Riatsala Music), waxing a blues-rock album that holds appeal for traditionalists. The rhythm section never fails to swing, providing a nuanced, true-blues launch pad for Greene’s guitar, even on the aggressive reading of “Get Out of My Life, Woman.” A stinging version of “Don’t Lose Your Cool” features the harmonica of Mitch Kashmar, who guests on six tracks overall; “Merry-Go-Round” captures the melancholy of the Fleetwood Mac original. Greene’s own songs reference trademark sounds from Bo Diddley to The Meters, with “Drunk Again” a strong shuffle and “Look Out Baby” a speeding ticket waiting to happen." - Tom Hylsop

The Eric Clapton and Cream Tribute show at Soho in Santa Barbara on November 13th was an amazing success. Thanks to all at KTYD, KCSB, The Santa Barbara Blues Society, Daily Sound, News Press, SB Independent, and everyone else that helped to promote the show! Photos and Video to be posted shortly!

Alastair featured on new Aynsley Dunbar CD!

We are thrilled to announce that the new AYNSLEY DUNBAR CD 'Mutiny' is available from both and iTunes. Alastair can be heard playing guitar on 5 of the albums 10 cuts including: 1) La Do Da 4) Chunga's Revenge 5) 3 Bullets 9) Mutiny 10) Hustler Alastair also handles lead vocals on tracks 1, 5, and 10. Those with keen eyes will notice the inclusion of a re-recording of Alastair's song "3 Bullets" originally released on his 1st solo CD A Little Wiser. Aynsley was the drummer on recordings (and in most cases in live shows) by such artists as: John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Frank Zappa, Journey, David Bowie, Whitesnake, etc. and even had his own blues band in the late 60s in England that made a few records as Aynsley Dunbar's Retaliation. It's truly an honor for Alastair to be a part of Aynsley's recording history. After all,..he's played with a few pretty good guitar players in his day. (Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Frank Zappa, Neal Schon, Pat Travers, John Sykes, Jake E Lee, etc,..) Find out more at
